Many people have asked, 'Why did you train to be a Reflexologist?'

Well, about 14 years ago one of my good friends was on a course which, amongst other disciplines, taught Reflexology. She practised on me a few times and I became very intrigued. I bought her a book on the subject and read most of it before I had to reluctantly give it up for her. So, I bought another one and finished it off!

I didn't pick it up again until about 5 years ago when another friend and I had gone for a long 16-mile walk. Our feet were tired so I gave a very basic foot massage to help ease the aches away. It helped and felt great. This made me remember my Reflexology book which I duly dusted off and read again with renewed interest. This time however, I decided to investigate the possibility of making this into a career and training on a course.

The International Institute of Reflexology (IIR) seemed like a very thorough course and ran for one year; I decided to enrole. Starting in November 2007 and ending in October 2008 it was intense, with 100 case studies to carry out and write up, indepth Anatomy & Physiology and 7 full weekends spread over the year to attend. A truly enjoyable course, and a real hands-on approach lead me to pass both the practical and theory paper exams with 97%.

Since passing in October 2008, I have set up my own business based from home and have recently trained and passed as a Thermo-Auricular Therapist (Hopi Ear Candles). I consider myself to be a 'clinical' Reflexologist hoping to help with chronic and acute conditions. However, there is much to be said for the therapeutic relaxation which goes hand-in-hand with a Reflexology or Hopi treatment!

I would like to stress to all clients new and old (!), that whilst I believe Reflexology has many benefits to the human body, I believe strongly that I am in no way replacing a doctor's advice and expert opinion. My opinion is that Complementary therapies in general may work alongside orhodox medicine very well. A doctor should ALWAYS be consulted if there are any concerns with your health. I do not diagnose, prescribe or treat for a specific condition, I treat the body as a whole.

In the future, I would like to practise Indian Head Massage and Thai Foot Massage. They would be wonderful adjuncts to both Hopi Ear Candles and my first love, Reflexology!
